About Shawnee
Shawnee emerged out of the dust on high noon during
the land run September 22, 1891. Steady growth since the boom days has
transformed a primarily agricultural community into one with a
diversified economic base.
Our community offers a small town atmosphere with big city variety for
all the comforts of home. From fast food to elegant fare, shopping for
sports wear to ballroom gowns, simple low-cost rooms to full-blown
suites, we're waiting to serve you in Shawnee.
Shawnee is home to Oklahoma Baptist University and Saint Gregory's
University. Shawnee also offers Gordon Cooper Vocational School.
For the art enthusiast Shawnee offers three museums including the
Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, a magical mix of over 10,000 art objects
that tell the history of art; the Santa Fe Museum that tells the
history of Shawnee from is raw beginnings and the Potawatomi Indian
Museum filled with pictures, artifacts and paintings by Indian artist.
