This September, visitors to the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center can expect to experience plenty of family-friendly events including the Pottawatomie County Free Fair, Monkey Business Consignment Sale and more.
The Oklahoma Foundation Quarter Horse Registry will return to the Expo Center Sept. 2-3 for their fall show. Classes on Saturday, Sept. 2 will feature herd work and speed events including barrel racing, pole bending, keyhole, stake race, breakaway roping, ranch cutting and more. Classes on Sunday, Sept. 3 will feature reining, handy ranch and others. The event will be judged by Dr. Gary Webb. Classes will begin at 8 a.m. both days. The Ruffles & Rust Expo, a highly-anticipated shopping event, will be held at the Expo Center Saturday, Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Featuring more than 100 vendors from several regional states, attendees can expect a treasure trove of furniture, home décor, jewelry, boutique apparel and hand-crafted goods. The first 100 guests will receive a swag bag stuffed with special goodies from vendors. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Adults and children of all ages will fill the Expo Center Sept. 6-9 to enjoy the Pottawatomie County Free Fair. The free event will feature a variety of exciting events including plenty of contests, exhibits, carnival rides, livestock shows and the Oklahoma Jr. High and High School Rodeo. The fair will open Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. and will close nightly through Saturday at 10 p.m.
The Oklahoma Jr. High and High School Rodeo takes place during the last two days of the fair at the Expo Center, attracting rodeo athletes from across the state to Shawnee. Visitors can watch the exciting performances such as saddle bronc riding and barrel racing in the Expo Center Grandstands. Thrifty shoppers will love the Fall/Winter Monkey Business Consignment Sale, held at the Expo Center Sept. 14-16. The event is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 14-15. In addition, shoppers can enjoy Half-Priced Day on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will showcase a plethora of gently-used items for children, teens and moms-to-be. The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce will host their annual auction, A Tasty Affair, at the Expo Center on Thursday, Sept. 28. The reception will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the silent and live auctions. A Tasty Affair will feature more than 30 restaurants, caterers and vineyards for attendees to sample. The live auction will showcase an array of excited items including vacations, hunting trips, football tickets, decorations, gadgets and much more. Proceeds from the event will benefit community programs that support local business growth. Tickets are limited to the first 550 reservations.
