
At the Expo: Delight in December Events
December is always a wonderful time of year at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center and there’s plenty of exciting events for all ages planned in the weeks to come!
You won’t want to miss the Oklahoma State Poultry Federation’s 101st annual Oklahoma State Poultry Show at the Expo Center on Saturday, Dec. 9. Featuring three divisions and more than 3,000 birds, this exhibition will showcase the best of the best in Oklahoma poultry. Judging for the show will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue until all entries have been scored. The annual show will also feature a raffle starting at 9 a.m. followed by the drawing at 2 p.m. For more information, please visit OklahomaStatePoultryFederation.org.
If you’re visiting the Poultry Show, be sure to also check out the Oklahoma Pigeon Association’s annual Pigeon Show! The event will feature nearly 600 pigeons of all kinds from across the region. In addition, event attendees can check out the pigeon sale and auction. Judging will begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 9. There is no admission cost. Love a good rodeo? Make plans to come out to the Expo Center Dec. 9-10 for a weekend of competitive youth rodeo with the Heart of Oklahoma Youth Rodeo Association. The rodeo will feature four age brackets showcasing various events including barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, tie down roping, breakaway roping and many more. Rodeo events will start at 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. All event proceeds benefit contestants. For more information, please visit HOYRA.net.
It’s the season of giving and Faith Christian Outreach church will host their 12th annual Bikes for Kids community outreach event at the Expo Center on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m.! Since 2006, Bikes for Kids has provided more than 5,000 bikes to local children. Children in need are selected through a peer-identification process. Each year, more than 9,500 nomination forms are sent to area schools for parents, friends or school personnel to nominate children in need. Those children are then notified they will receive a bicycle at the annual celebration where they are greeted by a host of volunteers and treated to homemade Christmas cookies and milk. Last but certainly not least, the G&S Gun Show returns to the Expo Center Saturday, Dec. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show is the perfect opportunity to grab last minute Christmas presents or stocking stuffers! Attendees can expect an expansive showcase of weaponry including pistols, holsters, long guns, knives and more. Admission to the G&S Gun Show is $8. Active duty and retired military personnel will receive $2 off admission with identification. Police and firemen will receive free admission. For more information, please visit GandSGunShows.com.
