January is shaping up to be a splendid month for family-friendly events at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center! Visitors can expect everything from a dog show and team roping to the annual Triangle Winter Horse sale and more. Plus, be sure to keep reading for information on the Central Area Livestock Show coming the first week of February!
Come out to the Expo Center Jan. 12-14 for a dog-gone good time at the Red Dirt Agility Club’s first canine agility trial of the year in the Fred Humphrey Pavilion. The event is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and is set to feature AKC-recognized breeds, all-American dogs and mixed breed dogs listed in the AKC Canine Partners Program. The trial will be judged by Candy Nettles and Gene Downing. Trial hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome. The Oklahoma chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host their State Chapter Appreciation and Awards Banquet at the Expo Center on Saturday, Jan. 20. The event will feature a delicious meal and exciting auction items. Tickets to the banquet are $35 for ages 11 and up, $18 for ages 6-10 and free for children under 6. Team roping fans are invited to the Expo Center for some good competitive roping with Jones Arena Productions Jan. 20-21. Roping will commence at noon on Saturday, Jan. 20. Event visitors on Sunday, Jan. 21 can enjoy church services beginning at 9 a.m. followed by roping at 10 a.m. Books will open one hour prior to roping times. Competitors will have an opportunity to earn buckles, trophy breast collars and saddles. The event is free for spectators. The event will commence with sale session No. 1 at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 and will be followed by sale session No. 2, 3 and 4 as well as the Fish Fry Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 will kick-off with a team roping and barrel racing demonstration at 8 a.m. followed by sale session No. 5 at 9 a.m. and No. 6, 7, 8 and 9 immediately after.
